Based off a photo taken near my home in Cheshire, this painting is an accumulation of experiments in abstract and Impressionist art. Since moving to the countryside, I have always been grateful to be surrounded by animals – they are regularly a source of inspiration for me.
In January 2012, I was honoured to be awarded the top prize in the Chinese National Embassy's drawing competition, welcoming the first pandas to the UK. This digital painting, completed 8 years later, is an ode to how much this competition inspired me and encouraged me to continue creating.
One of my favourite media to work in is Japanese gansai – their rich, saturated colours truly appeal to the colour enthusiast in me!
My inspiration for this painting came from a photo I took in Penang, Malaysia. Whenever I visit family there, I am always struck by the beautiful of the tropics and wildlife I find there, and I wanted to reflect some of this vividness in my painting.
This optimistic artwork was painted for the Palatinate Newspaper, in response to an article on the potential positives of COVID-19 in inspiring the next generation of scientists, much like the space race for the previous generation.
Inspired by Disney's live-action remake of 'The Lion King', this painting was created for the St Chad's (Durham University) Candlemas Ball, titled 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', in the style of a movie poster.
